DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire will welcome alumni and friends to campus for Homecoming Weekend Oct. 9-12.

Headquarters for Saturday, Oct. 11, will be the UNH Alumni Association's big tent on Main Street, where there will be a free picnic lunch, live music, an artisans' and crafts fair, and a free post-football game reception.

The weekend begins Thursday, Oct. 9, with a concert by folk-rock singer Matt Nathanson at 7:30 p.m. in the Granite State Room of the Memorial Union Building. Nathanson is known for a hybrid stage show of singing and stand-up comedy. Tickets at the door are $5 for nonstudents and free for students.

Friday, Oct. 10, the UNH women's soccer team will play Albany in Bremner Field, behind the Field House. The traditional Blue and White Parade, complete with student-made floats, will proceed from C-Lot to Cowell Stadium starting at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., a pep rally, with performances by a capella groups and the UNH Dance Team, and the introduction of athletes and coaches, will be held in the Field House. A fireworks display will follow in Cowell Stadium at around 8:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

Comedian Dane Cook will perform in the Field House Friday at 10 p.m. He is a frequent guest on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn.” Tickets are $4 for students and $10 for nonstudents and are available from the ticket office in the Memorial Union Building. Activities on Saturday, Oct. 11, begin with a 5K road race. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in the main lobby of the Whittemore Center, and the race starts at 9 a.m. in front of the Field House. Children ages 7 and under may enter the quarter-mile Fun Run. Pre-race entry fee (before Oct. 8) is $10; the price on the day of the race is $12. T-shirts will be awarded to the first 250 registered. For the Fun Run, there is no registration fee but cans of food for a local food pantry will be accepted. A swim meet by UNH men's and women's swimming team alumni will be held at 9 a.m. at Swasey Pool in the Field House. For more information, call (603) 862-3832.

Family nonalcoholic tailgating will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon in Lot A. Also from 9:30 a.m. to noon will be traditional tailgating in Boulder Field. A ticket to the football game is required for entry to the tailgating areas, and the fee for both areas is $5 per car. Official functions will be held in Upper Field.

The UNH Alumni Association's big tent will welcome all Homecoming alumni and friends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the corner of Main Street and Edgewood Road (H Lot). A free picnic-style luncheon will be offered from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. UNH music professor Dave Seiler's jazz group will perform. In New Hampshire Hall next door, an artisans' and craftsmen's fair will be held with more than 30 booths featuring New Hampshire-made products. The fair is presented in partnership with New Hampshire Stories. UNH logo items, including clothing and gifts, will also be for sale.

The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) Society, including mechanical engineering alumni, will hold a tailgating gathering at the south end of Boulder Field starting at 10 a.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and cold drinks will be provided. Also at 10 a.m., Health Management and Policy B.S. and M.H.A. alumni and faculty will gather in Boulder Field for tailgating. For information, contact Brian Mooney at hmpalum@verizon.net. Sigma Beta's homecoming activities will begin at 10 a.m. at the fraternity house at 26 Madbury Rd. A corporate meeting will be held after the football game at 3 p.m., and a prime rib buffet will begin at 4 p.m. Sigma Beta alumni may RSVP to alumnichairman@sigmabeta.com.

The UNH football game against Delaware will kick off in Cowell Stadium at noon. For tickets, call Ticketmaster at (603) 868-7300 or buy tickets at the Field House ticket window or parking lot.

After the game, the UNH Alumni Association's Fifth Quarter reception will be held under the tent at Main Street and Edgewood Road (H Lot) from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Free refreshments will be available and there will be an opportunity to meet the football players and coaches.

Saturday evening, the UNH men's hockey team will play Vermont at 7 p.m. in the Whittemore Center. Ticket information is available at www.alumni.unh.edu/resources/hockey.html. At 8 p.m., a Homecoming Benefit Concert will be presented by three student a capella groups -- the New Hampshire Gentlemen, the Notables and Alabaster Blue -- in the Strafford Room of the MUB. Tickets at the door are $5 for students and $7 for nonstudents. A free outdoor movie, Bruce Almighty, starring Jim Carrey, will be presented on the Thompson Hall lawn after the hockey game, around 10 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 12, Homecoming festivities continue with the 14th annual Parent-Alumni Sailing Regatta for UNH Sailing Team members, parents and alumni at 10 a.m. on Mendum's Pond in Barrington. Registration is at 9 a.m. The cost is $20 and includes lunch and a commemorative T-shirt. At 2 p.m., the UNH women's ice hockey will play an exhibition game against McGill University at the Whittemore Center. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for under 18 and seniors, and $3 for group of 20 or more. For tickets, call TicketMaster at (603) 868-7300 or purchase them at the box office window. To purchase group tickets, call (603) 862-4000. Also at 2 p.m., the men's soccer team will play Hartford at Lewis Field behind the Field House.
