DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire President Ann Weaver Hart today announced the appointment of Jennifer Murray as vice president for university communications. Murray replaces Phyllis Bennett, who retired more than a year ago.

"Jennifer Murray brings strong and passionate leadership to this new position," Hart said. "In addition to her extensive expertise with brand development, media relations and programming, Jennifer is a consensus builder, a strategic thinker and a team player. These talents and more will help the university build an excellent communication program."

Young Dawkins, president of the University of New Hampshire Foundation, has served as interim leader of UNH communications - University Publications, the News Bureau, and Public Programs and Events.

Murray, a native of Amherst, graduated from UNH in 1976, with a major in political science and a minor in journalism. "I am thrilled to be returning to the state and to UNH where I received an outstanding education that has served me extremely well and provided me with a strong foundation," Murray said.

For more than two decades, Murray has led senior marketing communications initiatives with multinational companies such as New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc., Fidelity Investments, Converse Inc. and RYKÄ.

From 1980 to 1983, Murray was press secretary for former N.H. Gov. Hugh Gallen, and was a radio news anchor for WSMN in Nashua from 1976 to 1979.
