president, Ann Weaver Hart.
The ceremony was held at the Whittemore Center, where faculty, staff and students were joined by the Durham community, University System of New Hampshire trustees, delegates from New England colleges and universities, Utah and California university systems, members of the state legislature, alumni, and friends in celebrating Hart's presidency. Stephen Reno, chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire, and John Lynch, chair of the USNH Board of Trustees, bestowed the academic medallion on Hart, after which she presented her inauguration address.
"I believe that leadership can be an institutional characteristic and that some institutions nurture, inspire, and exercise leadership in ways that are inseparable from the leadership of the individuals within," Hart said. "The University of New Hampshire has, and must continue to hold as part of its identity, leadership: not only in superb teaching and scholarship, but also in service to and engagement in public and private life in New Hampshire." |
