UNH Hosts Summer Writing Institute for TeachersBy Erika Mantz 603-862-1567 UNH News Bureau April 26, 2002 DURHAM, N.H. -- An eight-day writing institute providing teachers with in-depth training in art-and-literature-based processes designed to improve student writing will be offered by the University of New Hampshire's Laboratory for Interactive Learning in July. "Picturing Writing: Fostering Literacy Through Art and Image Making Within the Writing Process" has been proven by research to dramatically improve student writing. By giving students access to visual and kinesthetic modes of thinking at each stage of the writing process, picturing writing and image-making provide an important pathway into writing for children with diverse learning styles. The institute will take place July 9-12, and 15-18, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $750 per participant. Elementary classroom teachers, art, reading and special education specialists are encouraged to attend. Deadline to register is May 15. For more information and to register, please contact Liz Arcieri at (603) 862-3691. |
