UNH Welcomes All to Homecoming 2001 Later This Week

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire will welcome alumni and friends back to campus for Homecoming weekend on Oct. 5-7 with a parade, receptions, music and a variety of athletic events.
The weekend will kick off on Friday, Oct. 5, with the Blue and White parade at 6 p.m., followed by a pep rally, band concert and fireworks at Cowell Stadium at 7 p.m. A sale of UNH logo clothing and gift items will be held at the Alumni Center from 2 to 6 p.m.
At 10 p.m., a Comedy Concert will be held at Lundholm Gymnasium, featuring stand-up comedian and actor Jay Mohr. Mohr made his TV debut playing the dimwitted Dorfman on "Camp Wilder" (ABC, 1992). He first gained national attention in 1993 as a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," and played the role of the former-protege-turned-nemesis agent (of Tom Cruise) in the critically acclaimed movie "Jerry Maguire" (1996). He also played Jennifer Aniston's pretend fiancÚ in the romantic comedy "Picture Perfect" (1997) and the war-hero son in the comedy spoof "Mafia" (1998). Saturday, Oct. 6, will start with a 5K road race. All proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross New York City Relief Fund. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. in the main lobby of the Whittemore Center. The race begins at 9 a.m. in front of Thompson Hall. The pre-race entry fee is $10, the day of the race, $12. At 9 a.m., an alumni swim meet will be held in Swasey Pool in the Field House. For more information, call (603) 862-3852. Also at 9 a.m., UNH football team alumni tailgating will begin on Upper Field. For more information, call (603) 862-2852. Friends of UNH Crew will hold a tailgating gathering under the tent in Upper Field at 9 a.m. For more information, call women's crew at (603) 862-3902 or men's crew at (603) 862-2074.
Traditional and non-alcoholic family tailgating will be held in Boulder Field and Lot A, respectively, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Admission is $5 per car. Starting at 10 a.m., the UNH Swim Team will hold alumni tailgating at Upper Field. For more information, call (603) 862-3832. Also at 10 a.m., Mechanical Engineering alumni will hold a tailgating gathering in the tent area on Boulder Field. For more information, contact Tracy Harvey at (603) 862-1353.
Starting at 10:30 a.m., the Alumni Association will offer refreshments and entertainment by the UNH Marching Band and the UNH cheerleaders at a "Welcome, alumni!" tent in front of the Field House.
At noon, the football game vs. Delaware will kick off in Cowell Stadium. After the game, the Alumni Association will host a post-game reception and a sale of UNH logo clothing and gift items at the Elliott Alumni Center.
A student leader open house will be held at the Student Senate Office in the MUB, with tours of the MUB, from 3 to 4:45 p.m. A social hour will follow, with food and beverages in the Berkshire Room of the New England Center starting at 5 p.m., a video slide show retrospective at 5:45 p.m., speakers and a panel discussion from 6 to 7 p.m., and networking from 7 p.m. on. The men's ice hockey team will play the University of Ottawa at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets will be available starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, by calling TicketMaster at (603) 868-7300. On Sunday, Oct. 7, the women's ice hockey team will play an exhibition game vs. Concordia at the Whittemore Center at 2 p.m.
