DURHAM, N.H. -- Five University of New Hampshire undergraduates have earned membership in the French National Honor Society Pi Delta Phi.
The following students were selected based on their grade point average and recommendations from UNH faculty in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures: Megan Ballin of New London; William Mason of Priest River, Idaho; Elka Jones of Pittsburgh; Stacey Scorza of Uxbridge, Mass.; and Deborah Bennett of Jaffrey. The new members will take part in an official initiation ceremony later this spring.
For its French-related community service project, members of the UNH chapter will raise money to help replant trees at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris. The gardens of the palace were devastated this winter by a storm that uprooted more than 10,000 trees, some of which had considerable historical or botanical significance.
Students estimate that it will cost $170 to replace a single tree. Their goal is to raise enough money to replace two to five trees. For more information about the Versailles replanting project, contact Barbara Cooper, faculty sponsor, at 603-862-3856.
