DURHAM, N.H. -- Nearly a foot of rain has fallen in Durham since last weekend, and Cowell Stadium is under water. Saturday’s commencement at the University of New Hampshire will be moved across the street to Memorial Field, located between the Dairy Bar and the Whittemore Center. The processional will begin at the regular time of 9:45 a.m.

According to Patrice Russell, assistant director of Presidential Events and Programs, Memorial Field is artificial turf and located on higher ground. “We will need your patience and cooperation during the relocation and the ceremony itself,” she stressed. “All staff involved with commencement - from Facilities, to Grounds and Roads, to Presidential Events and Programs, to Dining, to Transportation - are doing everything possible to make this transition as seamless as possible for our graduating students, their families and friends.”

While no tickets are required, capacity will be limited. Russell projects a loss of up to 7,000 seats. The Whittemore Center will still provide a simulcast of the complete ceremony on a first-come-first-serve capacity of 7,500. For those who requested special needs seating, they will be accommodated in the Whittemore Center.

The UNH homepage will be devoted to commencement and the necessary changes students, families and faculty will need to know about. As we relocate the event, we will be regularly updating the page so you have the latest information. We urge you to check back as we continue to monitor local road conditions.
