Portsmouth Herald: Road salt pits driver safety against environmental safety

University of New Hampshire assistant professor of hydrogeology J. Matthew Davis said the salt can affect drinking water supplies, and becomes a potential health risk in high concentrations. He said the rock salt runoff can elevate salt levels in well water for a day or two, and said he has gotten a handful of calls from concerned residents over the past several years.
