Portsmouth Herald/Seacoast Online: Thumbs up to local acts of generosity

Over at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, five sorority houses — Alpha Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Chi Omega and Alpha Xi Delta — are monitoring energy consumption by turning off lights, unplugging computers and appliances and taking shorter showers, starting Oct. 24. Last spring, the five houses prevented 6,741 pounds of CO2 from being released and saved $863.56 in utility costs during the month they participated.
