Search committees for two high-level positions on campus, vice provost
for academic affairs and dean of the Graduate School, have been
named and the university is seeking assistance from the campus community
in identifying strong candidates for each position.
Stephen Hardy, professor of kinesiology, and Harry Richards, associate
dean of the Graduate School, serve in the interim positions, respectively.
The vice provost search committee consists of Donna Brown, director
of undergraduate research; Susan Franzosa, professor, education;
Michael Kalinowski, associate professor, family studies; John Kraus,
senior institutional researcher; Claudia Morner (co-chair), university
librarian; Lee Seidel, Center for Teaching Excellence; James Varn
(co-chair), assistant provost; and Neil Vroman, associate dean,
School of Health and Human Services.
The vice provost oversees and coordinates work related to the development,
review and approval of undergraduate academic programs and courses.
The vice provost oversees a variety of universitywide programs and
offices including the Discovery Program, General Education, the
Honors Program, International Education, the Office of Institutional
Research, the Teaching Excellence Program, Undergraduate and International
Research, and the campuswide writing programs. Finally, the vice
provost coordinates assessment activities to evaluate and improve
student learning.
The search committee for dean of the Graduate School consists of
Karol LaCroix (co-chair), UNH Manchester; P.T. Vasudevan (co-chair),
professor, chemical engineering; Eliga Gould, associate professor,
history; Christine Shea, associate professor, decision sciences;
Sarah Kenick, Graduate Student Organization; David Lane, associate
professor, university library; Robert Jolley, associate professor,
social work; Ann Bucklin, associate professor, zoology and director
of NH Sea Grant; and Eleanor Abrams, professor, education and faculty
fellow, vice president for research and public service.
The dean of the Graduate School oversees graduate recruitment and
admissions, the administration of graduate assistantships, and graduate
program reviews. The dean is responsible for managing and developing
resources, including grants and private gifts. The dean is active
in faculty development efforts, overseeing the awards of summer
faculty development grants and other related activities.
Both searches will be conducted this spring, with the goal to make
both appointments effective this summer. Nominations and applications
should be submitted to Vice-Provost.Search@unh.edu
or Graduate-Dean.Search@unh.edu.
