William Trumble, associate dean for research at the College of Life
Sciences and Agriculute, has been appointed dean, effective April
1.
Andy Rosenberg, dean of the college, has decided to step down and
return to the faculty to pursue research opportunities in marine
science and management.
“Andy has increasingly been viewed as an international expert
in this arena. I speak on behalf of the university administration
when I state our great appreciation for Andy’s work in the
college over the past four years. He has been committed to strengthening
its research portfolio, assuring more efficient use of very constrained
resources, and advocating for more effective disciplinary and interdisciplinary
arrangements,” said Bruce Mallory, provost and executive vice
president for academic affairs.
Trumble’s appointment follows consultation with college leaders
and UNH President Ann Weaver Hart. According to Mallory, the college
is at a “critical juncture in its development” and extraordinary
circumstances related to the college’s ongoing organizational
and curriculum development, fiscal planning, and need for continuity
outweighed the value of conducting an external search.
“In my conversations with Bill, I have become convinced that
he has the ideas, ideals and passion needed to provide strong leadership.
Bill’s first charge from me is to carry the college through
a comprehensive review (to be initiated later this spring) and create
a long-term plan for academic excellence,” Mallory said. “Bill
assumes the leadership of the college in the context of ongoing
mitigation planning, a hiring freeze for new tenure track faculty,
the need to drastically reduce adjunct faculty expenses, and continuing
enrollment declines. I have offered the full resources of the Provost’s
Office to assist Bill and the college through these challenges.”
