OS
Council reviews proposed family friendly leave policy
By
John Reed, Media Relations
The OS Council reviewed three options for the Family Friendly Leave
proposals at its March meeting.
The proposals are designed to improve paid leave time to care for
sick family members and for the birth or adoption of a child. Many
in the OS Council have expressed concern about the costs of these
proposals and what the potential tradeoffs might be in terms of
other benefits.
The council is seeking input from constituents regarding these proposals
as well as the cost containment proposals.
“We’re trying to rally our constituency before the next
SPPC meeting. We would really like to get some active discussion
by March 23 so that we can get the constituents’ feedback
to the SPPC through their district reps,” said Stephanie Higgs,
chair of the OS Council.
The OS Council hopes to present this feedback for the March 25 SPPC
meeting where the Family Friendly Leave Policy and cost containment
proposals will be discussed more.
The council strongly encourages all operating staff to visit the
new OS Council Web site at www.unh.edu/os-council,
review the proposal options, and offer feedback to their council
district representatives.
In other business, the council discussed:
-
The assignment of council districts to its representatives. A
posting of the council districts and their respective representatives
is available on the council Web site.
- Updating
OS Council constituents and regularly sending them the minutes
of meetings via e-mail and standard mail.
-
Approval of Compassionate Leave Program, which is being tested
in Banner.
- Additional
ways to recognize operating staff who have been at UNH for more
than 25 years (i.e. employee profiles on the HR Web site).
The
OS Council would like to welcome new members Charlene Hill-Dining,
Geraldine Sanders-Housekeeping, Jim Layne-Alumni Facilities, and
Jason Brodeur-WSBE Grad Admissions.
The council is still looking for a few new members. For information
