NOAA
Administrator Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher, Jr. presented
Moore with a citation for his “extraordinary leadership in
his appointed duties as chair of the NOAA Research Review Team and
his lifelong contributions to the improved understanding of Earth,
oceans, and space. Dr. Moore’s extraordinary professionalism,
initiative, and selfless devotion to his work reflect great credit
upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the
scientific community.”
The NOAA Research Review Team is the working group of the agency’s
Science Advisory Board - an external advisory committee charged
with advising the NOAA administrator on all aspects of NOAA’s
science programs and activities.
NOAA, an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, conducts
research and gathers data about the global oceans, atmosphere, space
and sun, and applies this knowledge to science and service affecting
the lives of all Americans. NOAA warns of dangerous weather, charts
the seas and skies, guides the use and protection of ocean and coastal
resources, and conducts research to improve the understanding and
stewardship of the environment.
UNH and NOAA work together on a host of collaborative projects,
including the Atmospheric Investigation, Regional Modeling, Analysis,
and Prediction (AIRMAP) program, the Northeast Consortium, and the
UNH Center of Excellence for Coastal Ocean Observation and Analysis.
Of Moore, the citation continued, “Displaying consistently
exceptional qualities of keen analytical thought, broad technical
expertise, high energy, intent focus, and passionate commitment
to his work, Dr. Moore has demonstrated outstanding performance
and dedication to both NOAA and the nation.”
