Are
you interested in the V.P. Discretionary Grant Fund?
The Academic Strategic Plan has been approved, and one of the five
strategic themes is “engagement and outreach.” To reflect
this theme the VPR&PS Discretionary Fund will focus on “outreach
scholarship.”Outreach Scholarship projects represent research
efforts in which there is a mutually beneficial collaboration between
UNH and external partners to generate and apply relevant knowledge
to directly benefit the public. Applications are being accepted
for FY04 discretionary grants. Application guidelines are available
in the VPR&PS office and will be sent out to all faculty (tenure-track,
research, extension, clinical) in late February. For additional

The deadline for receipt of proposals is April 15.
Professional Advising Award nominations are due March 3
Each year, the university recognizes one of its professional advisors
for excellence in advising. Former recipients include Carol French
(CEPS), Suzanne Booska (COLSA), Carole Pierce (SHHS), Janet Tucker
(formerly DCE), Carol Sanborn (formerly UAC), Regina McCarthy (UNHM),
Janice Chadwick (Psychology), Joanne Maldari (Athletics), Chris
Sohl (Honors), and Carol Tonge Mack (formerly, UACC). This year,
nominations are due in the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs’
office by noon March 3. Nominees should have at least three letters
of support, including two from students, that address, among other
attributes, the advisor’s knowledge and competence in their
advising and commitment to assisting students. The award will be
presented at the annual award luncheon March 23.
Summer Work Study information is available
The Financial Aid Office is preparing for the Summer Federal Work-Study
Program. Student applications are available in the Financial Aid
Office and online at www.unh.edu/financial-aid. Departments will
receive information in the mail. The Financial Aid Office is offering
two informational meetings on the Summer Federal Work-Study Program:
Tuesday, March 9, 10 a.m., MUB Room 332, and Wednesday, March 10,
2 p.m., MUB room 330. Please contact Beth.Cilley@unh.edu

FITSI applications due today
Applications for the third annual Faculty Instructional Technology
Summer Institute (FITSI) sponsored by CIS Academic Technology are
due today. The institute, held at UNH June 7-11, is a hands-on training
program offered to faculty and instructors in full-time, permanent
positions at UNH. Programming for the week includes workshops and
presentations by UNH instructional technology staff along with sessions
facilitated by recognized leaders in the field outside of UNH. Faculty
selected to participate will receive a free PC or Macintosh laptop
