Parent leave benefit should be equitable
I was astounded by the tone of Stephanie Higgs’ response to Julie Doyle’s letter regarding proposed adoption benefits for PAT and operating staff. Everyone who works on this campus has a right to express their opinion on an issue without being lambasted for doing so. It is my opinion that faculty, PAT and OS who adopt or give birth should have the same new parent leave benefit. To give benefits to some and not others is elitist.

I consider it a fine and worthy investment in the future of this country if all babies can have the extra security of their parents’ uninterrupted presence for as long as possible after birth or adoption.
