A lengthy discussion regarding how to conduct a survey on benefits and
compensation took place at the July PAT Council meeting where it was
decided to wait until fall and until input from HR has been received
before launching the questionnaire.
Also discussed were the two forums being held on the state of the university’s
financial health, the first of which was held Tuesday. [see
related story]. The forums address UNH’s financial situation, offer
a plan for addressing it and allow time for attendees to ask questions
or make comments.
PAT Chairman Guy Eaton urged councilors to attend one of the sessions.
The second takes place October 23, from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm in the MUB
Theatre 1.
Eaton also said he hopes to get new president Mark Huddleston to attend
a future PAT meeting.
In other news, Phil Hammond agreed to remain the PAT representative
to the SPPC for another term while Jon Plodzik signed on as the alternate,
replacing Tracy Boyle.
Anthony Zizos, head of Facilities Management and Operations, attended
the OS Council meeting and talked about his department’s role and
restructuring. He identified the top three challenges of restructuring
as being related to the management of finances, human resource, and information
technology.
Currently there are two system-wide initiatives underway to assess the
state of the department. The first evaluates the management of its physical
assets in comparison to other institutions and the second, aimed at identifying
future maintenance costs, looks at the physical condition of the plant.
Janet Doty of Human Resources also attended the meeting and answered
questions
concerning communication of salary increase guidelines; some council
members were not aware that increases had been announced.
Chairman Jason Brodeur offered to send the FY08 guidelines to all operating
staff to make sure everyone received the information.
On another note, the council reviewed January retreat notes and decided
to refocus on the following goals for the year:
· Employee communications initiatives
· Exploring a 360 degree evaluation for supervisors
· Providing training for employees who supervise work study students
The next PAT meeting is August 1 while the OS Council next meets on
August 8.
