Tuesday, October 24, 7:00pm. - Teatro Lirico D’Europa
presents “La Boheme”
The Celebrity Series welcomes the return of Tearo Lirico D’Europa
and their production of Giacomo Puccini’s “LA Boheme”,
featuring the Sofia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. This tender
yet tragic drama is appealing to a wide range of music lovers
for its timeless story: young people struggling to follow their
dreams, to become artists, and to fall in love, set against the
background of turn-of-the-century Paris.
“La Boheme” is a traditional-style production by Teatro Lirico D’Europa, under the artistic direction of company founder Giorgio Lalov. The opera will be sung in Italian with English supertitles, and features such well-known arias as Rudolfo’s “Chegelida manina”, Mimi’s “Si, mi chiamano Mim" and ‘Musetta’s Waltz.”

presents “Jane Eyre”
Adapted by Polly Teale, directed by Davis McCallum
One of America’s most respected touring companies returns with an adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre”, the classic tale of a young woman’s journey to adulthood. The story is at times a scathing indictment of Victorian assumptions about gender and social class.
The Acting Company, praised as “inventive, versatile, and fully professional,” by Harold Prince, is a troupe of the finest young professional actors from the best conservatories of theater in America. For over three decades, the company has collaborated with award-winning directors and designers under the guidance of co-founder and Producing Artistic Director Margot Harley to mount more than 120 productions giving an entire generation of actors the opportunity to master their craft.
Monday, March 5, 8:00 p.m. – Martha Graham Dance Company
The Martha Graham Dance Company is the oldest and most celebrated
contemporary dance company in America, offering a program of
classics as fresh and compelling as if they were made yesterday.
Though Martha Graham herself is the best-known alumna of her
company, having danced from the Company’s inception until
the late 1960’s, the Company has provided a training ground
for some of modern dance’s most illustrious performers
and choreographers.
You don’t have to know the history to see Graham’s genius – it’s part of the air every contemporary dancer breathes, and her methods are taught in studios the world over. From exciting classical arrangements, to breathtaking vocal
harmony, to burning jazz standards, Boston Brass achieves new
levels in brass performance while treating audiences to a unique
musical experience that captivates all ages. The ensemble's lively
repartee, touched with humor and personality, bridges the vast
ocean of classical formality to delight audiences with an evening
of boisterous fun, exciting knowledge and an enthusiastic love
of music, deftly exhibited by five brash brass players.
Boston Brass has transcended the traditional mores of brass ensemble literature and, with a host of original arrangements, has pioneered a new generation of music that sets out to achieve one simple goal: entertain at all costs with blistering precision. Whether they are performing solo or with a symphony orchestra, the fun and emotion exhibited from this group is uniquely infectious and keeps audiences on their feet, demanding encore after encore.
