The following series of programs, films and discussions on body image will be presented this month at the MUB. All are free and open to the UNH community.

Monday, Oct. 9, 7:00 p.m., Strafford Room, MUB. A multimedia one-man showcase spotlighting men struggling with eating disorders, steroid use, compulsive exercise and unhealthy eating habits.

In My Head I’m Thin with Susan Poulin
Tuesday, Oct. 24, 7:00 p.m., Granite State Room, MUB
Local artist Susan Poulin will perform her humorous and eye-opening play on body image. The performance will illustrate the difficulties men and women face when they try to conform to the media’s definitions of beauty and success.

Becoming a Critical Media Viewer - Information and Activism Tables
Monday, Oct.23, 11:00 a.m.– 2:00 p.m. Holloway Commons and Campus Recreation Information on how to become a critical media viewer and body image will be available.

Have Your Cake…And Eat It Too--Film and Discussion Series
Series on Eating Concerns and Body Image, 7:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. Theater I, MUB. http://www.unh.edu/health-services/events/pdf/fall06_film-series.pdf

Oct. 2: “Having Your Cake: Saying Goodbye to Bulimia.” The story of four women who struggled with bulimia and have found the road to freedom and recovery.

“Eating Disorders: The Inner Voice”- Interviews with young women and men about their personal struggles with eating disorders.

Oct. 16: “Body: The Value of Women”: A film about body image and self-esteem. Exposing the levels of self-hatred imposed by our culture and the media that reinforce negative body image and low self-esteem.

Oct. 23-“Body Image for Boys “ explores the struggles young men face to define themselves.

“Beyond the Looking Glass and Body Image”- teens and experts share their insights about issues that contribute to low self-esteem and body image

Oct. 30: “Killing Us Softly 3”-Critiques advertising’s image of women over the last 20 years and prompts viewers to take action.

“Behind Closed Doors”-This short film shows tricks used by photographers and photo stylists to make models look “flawless”

Nov. 6: “Do I Look Fat?”-Through the personal stories of seven men, this film explores eating disorders and self-esteem among gay men.
