National French Week: Francophone Africa Theme

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures’ French program will celebrate National French Week, with a focus on francophone (French-speaking) Africa, Nov. 6 to Nov. 9.

Scheduled events include lectures, food tastings and demonstrations, and a film by noted Senegalese director Ousmane Sembene. All are free and open to the public.

Monday, Nov. 6:
3:10 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Presentation by professor Samba Gadjigo, Mount Holyoke College, editor of “Ousmane Sembene, Dialogues with Critics and Writers” MUB Theater II.

7-9 p.m. - Film “Faat Kiné” (Senegal, 2000) dir. Ousmane Sembene, MUB Theater II

Tuesday, Nov. 7:
11:30-1:30 p.m.-Cuisine from Francophone Africa, Holloway Commons (requires meal pass or $7 special entrance)

3:30-5:00 p.m.-Presentation by professor Odile Cazenave, Boston University, author of “Afrique sur Seine”, Hamilton Smith, Room 8

Wednesday, Nov. 8:
4:00–6:00 p.m.-Film “Faat Kiné” (Senegal, 2000) dir. Ousmane Sembene, MUB Theater I

7:30-9:00 p.m.- Foods from Francophone Africa: cooking demonstration and tasting by chef Ralph Coughenour, sponsored by the UNH French Club, Oak Room, Huddleston Hall.

Thursday, Nov. 9:
12:40–1:30 pm. - Presentation by Laura Carpenter (UNH ’07), “Association for the Development of Education in Africa: working in an NGO,” Murkland Hall, G10
