UNHM features Eva Castillo, translator at the Manchester Latin American Center, as part of the Saul O Sidore Lecture Series, Through the Golden Doors - Immigration in the Twenty First Century. The lecture, “The Life of Immigrants in New Hampshire”, begins at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 30, 2006, in the 3rd floor auditorium.
Globalization has contributed to profound movements of people about the globe. Perhaps no force has played a greater roll in shaping the history of the United States than the persistent ebb and flow of human migrations that have peopled this nation, drawing together people of varied cultures and customs, speaking diverse languages, and carrying with them assorted religious beliefs. Immigration has been and continues to be a defining characteristic of this nation, but it has never been without controversy. The Saul O Sidore lecture series attempts to join the debate and foster civil discourse about an issue of great national significance – immigration and globalization in twenty-first century America.
