Amy Dickens (right) recently received this year’s award
for excellence in advising. Dickens has been an academic advisor
in the University Advising and Career Center for more than five
years and is also the advisor for the UNH Health Professions
Program. Her letters of nomination for the award cite her “ability
to educate students about the importance of taking personal responsibility
for their own progress…” and her “calming effect
on students; her persona exudes comfort and encourages any to
talk about their issues.” Also pictured are Carol Swiech,
last year’s winner, and Elliott Guner, director of the
University Writing Program. Guner spoke on the topic of literacy
and the age of computers at the award ceremony. (Carie Schelfhaudt/Media
