Ninety-one high-school students from the Seacoast, Manchester, and
North Conway areas of New Hampshire have already been selected to
participate in UNH's Upward Bound summer program
funded by the U.S. Department of Education. UNH Upward Bound announces
the sponsoring of the USDA Summer Food Service Program for children
administered by the NH Department of Education.
Meals will be provided to participants regardless of color, race,
sex, age, national origin, or disability. The Summer Food Service
Program will significantly supplement the cost
of meals for all Upward Bound students since at least two-thirds
of Upward Bound participants' families meet federal income-eligibility
criteria.

UNICCO Service Company, of Newton, Mass., has assumed responsibility
for housekeeping services from GCA July 1, 2006. Each building representative
has worked with us to prepare detailed service requirements that have been
incorporated into our contract with UNICCO. UNICCO will assume responsibility
for the same set of buildings that have been serviced by GCA; no buildings
are being added to the outsourced group as part of this transition. UNICCO
has been providing superior service at Keene State College for many years.
It will be introducing their green cleaning program, using environmentally
friendly products and cleaning methods. Work orders and calls for service
will remain the same through the Facilities Call Center at 2-1437.

The Farmers Market is Opening
The Durham Farmers Market is open now through October. The market is in the Pettee Brook
Parking Lot every Monday from 2:30 to 5:30 PM. There are several farmers selling vegetables
and fruit, and residents will also find cut flowers, plants, bread and pastries from
Currents Bakery, and more. Buying from local Farmers Markets encourages local food production,
keeps land open and in farming, provides fresh, healthy food for residents, is a way of
teaching our children where food comes from, and is an opportunity to meet the farmer who
grew the food.

Faculty/Staff Parking Permit Renewals
Faculty/Staff parking permit holders should expect personalized
renewal documents to be delivered by mail to their home addresses by mid-June.
Only those whose permits were renewed and valid for 05-06 will receive renewal
documents for 06-07. If your address has changed since last spring, be sure
to notify Transportation Services directly so that your renewal document
will reach you. Any unpaid parking tickets on your account must be paid before
your permit can be renewed; please square your account right away. A permit
renewal "preview" informational letter will be sent to the campus
addresses of all employees. Please read and carefully note the information
and instructions there. Any questions about permit sales and renewals may
be directed to Transportation Services at 862-1010.

Tree Planted in Memory of Charles H. Leighton
A red horse chestnut tree was planted on campus adjacent
to Murkland Hall in memory of Charles H. Leighton, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus.
Doctor Leighton taught at UNH for 38 years in the Department of Languages,
Literatures and Cultures, retiring in May 1994. The tree was donated in his
memory by his friends, colleagues and family and will be identified by a
planting marker and in the Book of Names found at the Dimond Library. The
tree planting was coordinated by the Campus Planning Office as part of the
Memorials and Tributes program at UNH. For more information on the program,
contact Stephen Pesci in the Campus Planning Office at 2-4207.
