Jupiter String Quarter Performs at UNH Jan. 31

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, the University of New Hampshire Celebrity Series will present the Jupiter String Quartet at 8 p.m. in the Johnson Theatre, PCAC. 
 
The Jupiter String Quartet captured first prize in the 8th Banff International String Quartet Competition in 2004, as well as the Szekely Prize for the best performance of a Beethoven quartet;  the grand prize at the 2004 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the 2005 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, as well as the Jerome L. Greene Foundation Prize,  the Paul A. Fish Memorial Prize, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society Prize, the La Jolla Music Society Prize, and the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival Prize. 
 
The quartet has performed in such venues as Boston’s Jordan Hall and London’s Wigmore Hall and has been enthusiastically received at major music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival, the Caramoor International Music Festival, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, the Honest Brook Music Festival, and the Yellow Barn Music Festival.  Last season, the quartet performed abroad in Austria, France, and Italy. It has been heard on NPR’s Performance Today, on Chicago’s classical station, WFMT 98.7, and on WQXR in New York.
 
The Jupiter String Quartet holds the position of Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the New England Conservatory in Boston, where it has worked with members of the original Cleveland Quartet. The quartet places a strong emphasis on developing relationships with future classical music audiences through outreach work in the school system and educational performances at NEC for the Boston community.

Tickets are $30 general; $27 UNH ID holder/Senior Citizens; $10 Youth (18 and under); $10 UNH Students/with valid ID. 
 
Tickets for the Jupiter String Quartet  as well as other events in the 2005-2006 UNH Celebrity Series Season can be purchased at the Memorial Union Building box office, Monday through Friday, 10-4 or by calling 2-2290 or visit the web at http://www.unh.edu/celebrity.  Tickets can also be purchased at the Johnson Theatre box office, one hour before the performance.
