Traditional Jazz Series Presents The Hot Club Of Portland Jan. 30

The sound and spirit of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt will be recreated by the Hot Club of Portland when the UNH Traditional Jazz Series continues on Monday, Jan. 30. Organized by guitarist Bryan Bergeron Killough who personally transcribed much of the music, the ensemble recaptures the qualities that made Django’s groups so popular and influential in the 1930s and ‘40s.

Performers include violinist Zach Ovington, clarinetist Ted Casher, guitarist Dave Newsam, and bassist John Hunter. This event is the Third Annual Tommy Gallant Memorial Concert, and proceeds enhance the scholarship fund established by Gallant’s family following his untimely death in 1999.

The concert takes place in the Johnson Theatre of the Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham campus, and begins at 8:00 p.m. Single Tickets are priced at $8.00, senior citizen and student tickets sell for $6 and are available at the MUB Ticket Office, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and one hour prior to the concert.

If you would like a brochure listing the upcoming season and other jazz events, call the UNH Department of Music at 2-2404. For tickets, call 2-2290.
