PAT Council Elects New Leaders; Looking for Rep to MUB Board of Governors

Outgoing PAT Council members received certificates of appreciation on behalf of Interim President J. Bonnie Newman during the monthly meeting where new officers were elected.

A bid was put out as well for anyone interested in serving on the MUB Board of Governors, a committee that meets one evening a month to discuss MUB issues. Any member of the PAT staff who would like to fill the position should contact their representative before next month’s meeting.

Replacing outgoing chairman Rick MacDonald is Gus Eaton who represents District 18.

Scott Bugbee, District 21, who served as vice-chair under MacDonald, will retain that seat. George O’Connell of District 6 is the new secretary, replacing Michael Wood.

While representatives are elected to two-year terms, the 22-member council chooses new officers annually.

Representatives stepping down from the council include Jackie Snow, District 11; Kathleen Kirby, District 12; Jahnay Pickett, District 13; Phil Hammond, District 14; Joanne Morgan, District 17, MacDonald and Wood.

Standing committees of the council also elect new chairs each year. In 2007, Brian Bailey will take over the communications committee and Rob Anderson will continue as head of professional development, a position he assumed in 2006 after sharing the duties with Jahnay Pickett.

Chairs for the nominations committee and the compensation and benefits committee will be decided at the first meeting of the new year.

The last professional development event of 2006 will be a breakfast meeting on Dec. 14, from 7:30-9 a.m., at the Hamel Recreation Center classroom. “Managing Your Healthcare More Effectively” will provide information on everything from kayak rentals to quitting smoking to low-cost massage—all things that can be done at UNH.

Next month’s regularly scheduled meeting will be rolled into the day-long retreat slated for Jan. 10 at the Alumni Center.
