UNH-Manchester Professor Releases Newest Book

December 6, 2006

John Resch, professor of history at the UNH-Manchester, has released his newest book, “War and Society in the American Revolution: Mobilization and Home Fronts” (Northern Illinois, University Press, 2006).

This collection of original essays by eleven leading historians highlights the variety and richness of American experiences during the Revolution. By focusing on soldiers, women, African Americans, and American Indians, “War and Society in the American Revolution” gives readers a fuller sense of the effect of the Revolution on the lives of ordinary people.

Resch and Walter Sargent are the book’s editors. Resch also contributed an essay on the mobilization of soldiers in New Hampshire. His work was supported by the Gustafson Senior Faculty Research Fellowship program from the UNH Humanities Center.

A book reception will be scheduled in early January at the UNH-Manchester campus.

Other publications by Resch include “Americans at War: Society, Culture, and the Homefront” (Macmillan Reference USA, 2005), “Suffering Soldiers: Revolutionary War Veterans, Moral Sentiment and Political Culture in the Early Republic” (University of Massachusetts Press, 1999), and contributions to “No Higher Calling: A Collection of Essays on the Social History of Child and Family Services” (Child and Family Services, 2002).

Resch is coordinator of the UNH-Manchester history program, and is active in the community. He is chairman of the Board of Trustees of Child and Family Services of N.H. and serves as president of the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of N.H.
