Student IT Pipeline Captures First Place at 2006 SIGUCCS

December 6, 2006

Computing and Information Services (CIS) group recently won the 2006 Best Electronic Computing Newsletter award from SIGUCCS (Special Interest Group on University & College Computing Services) for its online publication of Student IT Pipeline.

CIS staff member Tobias Heaton traveled to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to accept the award at the Fall 2006 SIGUCCS Conference and Awards Banquet, and to share the award-winning website with other representatives form other colleges and universities.

According to SIGUCCS website, the organization “sponsors communication awards to recognize outstanding publications developed at college and university computing centers. These awards recognize excellence in developing useful and attractive publications and provide SIGUCCS conference participants with an opportunity to review model publications that may help them develop or enhance their own work.”

UNH faced strong competition from the University of Georgia and Indiana University, but ultimately won first prize. Past award winners include Valparaiso University and the aforementioned Indiana University.

As an aside for winning this prestigious award, CIS is now responsible for helping to decide next year’s award winner. CIS staff member Martin England will act as one of the judges for the 2007 SIGUCCS awards.
