Provost Announces WSBE Dean Search Committee

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the creation of the Whittemore School of Business and Economics Dean’s Search Committee. This is the first step in the important process to recruit, review, and recommend candidates for the next Dean of WSBE.

The Committee includes the following members:

The Dean of WSBE has responsibility for assuring the highest quality academic and support programs at the School; recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff; the administration of School, University, and System policies; directing all outreach and community engagement initiatives; managing and developing the School’s fiscal and capital resources, and participating with other University deans in governance, strategic planning, and institutional assessment. The Dean serves as a member of the UNH Deans Council and reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President.

Dr. Wanda Mitchell, Vice Provost for Diversity, will work closely with the Committee to create a strong and diverse pool of candidates, through both formal and informal means. I expect that we will find such candidates both externally and internally. Finalists for the position will have the following attributes (to be defined more specifically by the Search Committee):

  1. Strong, visionary leadership and the ability to lead strategic planning processes in consultation with faculty
  2. A deep understanding of undergraduate and graduate education, curriculum design, and the assessment of student outcomes
  3. High academic standards that reflect intellectual rigor and integrity
  4. Effective communication skills necessary for strategic leadership and collegial relationships
  5. An established record of successful program development through public and private means
  6. The ability to manage budgets and make responsible short-term and long-term fiscal decisions and projections
  7. Qualifications consistent with the mission of an academic institution

The Search Committee will be assisted in its recruitment and review efforts by EFL Associates, a nationally recognized academic executive search firm with extensive experience in business school dean searches and related academic leadership positions. Ultimately, it is the Search Committee who will determine finalists for campus interviews and make final recommendations to me. Our goal will be to appoint the next dean as close to January 1, 2007 as possible.

I encourage all members of the University Community to utilize your professional networks in order to forward qualified nominations to the Search Committee. Nominations and other communication with the Committee can be addressed to: UNH@eflassociates.com.

Sincerely,

Bruce L. Mallory
Provost and Executive Vice President
