By Phil Hatcher, Computer Science Department
The Computer Science Department will be offering the popular course CS403, Online Network Exploration, via the FarView distance learning project this summer session. Historically, this course has been a popular summer selection for both traditional and non-traditional students, as well as staff and faculty, interested in learning more about how the Internet works and how to write web pages.
This summer, for the first time ever, CS403 will be made available via FarView. Under this project, students will be able to choose, on a lecture-by-lecture basis, whether they wish to attend lectures in person or remotely via computer. In other words, a student enrolled in this course could choose to attend lectures in a traditional classroom venue or remotely using a computer. To participate remotely, the computer requirements are relatively minimal, and the necessary software is freely available for download. The only “special” equipment would be some way to hear and be heard, but any one of several readily available and affordable headsets would suffice.
The only trips to campus required would be on two separate occasions to take exams.
If you, or someone you know, would be interested in learning how to write web pages this summer from the comfort of home or office, while earning four credits and fulfilling a General Education requirement, this would be an ideal opportunity.
The instructor for this section will be Michael Gildersleeve.
And although this will be the first time the course has been
taught via FarView, he has taught over 25 traditional sections
of the course. If you have questions, please contact the instructor
at amgilder@cs.unh.edu or 2-2506.
