The Thompson School of Applied Science’s Community Service and Leadership Program is bringing action, game playing and fun to UNH this spring. Students are organizing a benefit Casino Night and Silent Auction that will raise money for three non-profit organizations – Danny’s Team, the HUB Family Resource Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Casino Night will be held on April 28th from 7-11pm at Cole Hall. Tickets are $20 with all proceeds from the event going to charity. A ticket will get you in to the event, enter you into the door prize raffle and give you chips to play at gambling tables throughout the hall. You will also receive raffle tickets to be used for other possible prizes such as a night at the Wentworth by the Sea.
“Whether we raise $100 or $100,000, it will all go to a good cause,” said Jessica Carter, a first year student in the CSL Program helping to plan the event.
The event is being planned by students and will be run by volunteers. The Community Service and Leadership program is looking for volunteer dealers, waiters, and ushers. Volunteer shifts will allow the volunteers to purchase tickets as well as enjoy the Casino Night.
Sponsorships for Blackjack tables are $100, Texas Holdem table are $150 and Roulette wheels or Money wheels are $200. There are also red, green and blue chip sponsorships for the event, which are $2,000, $1,000 and $500, respectively. Those wishing to sponsor a table or be a volunteer at the event can call (603) 862-3058.
A raffle, door prizes, a silent auction and live music provided by UNH a capella groups will complete the agenda.
All proceeds from the event will support local charities that help children in difficult situations. Danny’s Team will use the money raised to sponsor On Belay in memory of Cresentia True, a former staff member in the Office of Sustainability at UNH and founder of On Belay, who recently passed away due to breast cancer. On Belay is an outdoor adventure program for kids whose lives have been invaded by cancer through a parent’s, guardian’s or loved one’s diagnosis.
The HUB Family Resource Center will be helping local children by sponsoring the play No More Secrets, which is designed to prevent or help children deal with sexual abuse. The play is intended for elementary school students and encourages kids to speak up.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is dedicated to helping find a cure and innovative treatment options for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) while providing support to families dealing with the disease. They work closely with local children dealing with CF.
