Music Department and Franklin High Celebrate Benjamin Franklin’s 300th Birthday

Please join William Kempster, the UNH Chamber Singers, and the Franklin High School (Mass.) Music Department in a concert celebrating the 300th birthday year of Benjamin Franklin. Highlights include a lecture and performance on Franklin’s invention, the Glass Armonica, by Alisa Nakashian-Holsberg, and the world premiere of Franklin Portrait, a 35-minute work for narrator and ensembles, focusing upon various texts of Ben Franklin and read by John-Michael Albert.

Composed by UNH Faculty member Christopher Kies, the work, specifically written for this occasion, features the Franklin High School Wind Ensemble, Chorus and String Orchestra in addition to the UNH Chamber Singers and instrumentalists.

The concert takes place in the Johnson Theatre Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 8 p.m, and is free and open to the public. For more information, call 2-2404.
