Robotics Club Invites Whiffle Teams to FIRST Fundraiser
Calling all Wiffle ball fans! Round up a team of your buddies or
co-workers for Wildcat Wiffle 2005 and play for a chance to win
$500 and a trophy.
The UNH Robotics Club is hosting the tournament on Sept. 17 to raise
money for Manchester Central High School’s FIRST Robotics
team “C.H.A.O.S. 131.”
The student-run club is mentoring the Manchester team this year.
“The team needs money for registration fees, travel and supplies,”
said UNH mechanical engineering junior and Robotics Club member
Kristen Kelso. “Their budget last year was about $23,000.”
Registration is $80 per team before Sept. 15 and $100 afterwards.
Payment can be made by check, or online via PayPal at www.unhroboticsclub.org/wt.
Check-in starts at 9 a.m. in Bremner Field. Games start at 10:00
a.m.
“We already have six teams,” said Kelso. “If we
get more than 16 registered, we will offer a second prize of $250.”
Teams can have from one to five players and are guaranteed to play
at least three games, rain or shine. Food and beverages will be
available and there will be a home run derby for a restaurant gift
certificate.
Founded by Segway inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST (For Inspiration and
Recognition of Science and Technology) is a multinational non-profit
that aspires to make science, math, engineering, and technology
as cool for kids as sports. For FIRST Robotics competitions, teams
of high school students—sponsored by local companies and helped
by volunteers—design, assemble, and test a 130-pound robot
in six weeks.
