UNH Faculty Concert Series Features Pianist Arlene Kies Sept. 18

The UNH Department of Music Faculty Concert Series is proud to present pianist Arlene Kies performing A Crescendo of Sonatas: Music by Scarlatti, Beethoven and Prokofiev. The concert is in the Johnson Theatre, PCAC, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 18, beginning at 3 p.m.

An all sonata program, the recital begins with three delightful, sparkling examples do Domenico Scarlatti’s vast output of binary form keyboard sonatas. The sublime Sonata in A Flat, Op. 110, of Beethoven is one of his most lyrical compositions for any solo instrument, filled with memorable melodies and heroic gestures. Kies will conclude the recital with Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 6. One of the so called War Sonatas, this huge composition nonetheless contains some of his most tender and playful writing.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the UNH Department of Music at 2-2404.
