Unseen Evil: Reality and Imagination in an Age of Terror discussed Oct. 27

Michael Barkun, professor of political science, at Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, will speak Thursday, Oct. 27, about "Unseen Evil: Reality and Imagination in an Age of Terror" at the next Saul O Sidore Lecture.

All lectures are free and open to the public, and will begin at 4 p.m. in MUB Theatre I.

Barkun has published extensively in the field of religion and politics. Among his specializations are New Religious Movements (particularly millennial movements) in the United States. His most recent book, Culture of Conspiracy: Apocalyptic Visions in Contemporary America (University of California Press 2003), examines notions of evil conspiracy by exploring the intersections among right-wind extremist groups (both secular and Christian) and particular branches of the American UFO movement. Barkun will address conceptions of secret, unrecognized, and invisible evil, and their relationship to the post-9/11 world.
