Next PAT Professional Development Seminar
Dec. 1 Focuses on Turning Hobbies into Businesses
Do you have a hobby that you think would
be a great business? Make sure you catch the Staff Development Breakfast
Series Dec. 1 to learn how to turn hobbies and interests into a
business.
The Staff Development Breakfast Series is sponsored by the PAT Council
and the President’s Office. All breakfast presentations are
held in Holloway Commons, Piscataqua Room. A Continental Breakfast
with coffee is served at 7:30 a.m. Presentations begin promptly
at 8 a.m. and end at 9:15 a.m. with a brief question-and-answer
period at the end.
University employees enjoy a great working environment, top-notch
benefits, and job security. Being a public institution they don't
get stock shares or see CEO-sized paychecks. This requires employees
to be a little more thoughtful and responsible with their money.
This year’s PAT Breakfast Series, “Taking Care of Business,”
aims to help stretch that paycheck, avoid fiscal pitfalls, and have
fun without breaking the bank.
On Dec. 1, 2005, the breakfast series features “Entrepreneurial
Opportunities: Turning Hobbies and Interests into Business.”
Successful UNH employee entrepreneurs will discuss how they have
created their own businesses based on their interests and hobbies.
They will discuss the joys, successes, and possible pitfalls in
creating a small company. Doing something one enjoys as a secondary
business can provide both extra income and the ability to write
off hobby expenses on taxes. With a little effort, one can stretch
play-time dollars with extra income and associated tax savings.
Upcoming breakfast series topics include:
Feb. 2, 2006 (Snow Date: Feb. 9): A Look At The Healthcare Industry
This forum will examine the current position of the healthcare industry,
as well as address the trend of rising healthcare and insurance
industry costs. Guest speakers will include Ned Helms, director,
Institute for Health Policy & Practice, along with representatives
from Gov. Lynch’s Citizen’s Health Initiative. These
guests are individuals working on the cutting edge of these industry
issues and will discuss their efforts to provide cost-effective,
accessible healthcare and insurance.
April 4, 2006: Little-Known Opportunities at UNH
Low-cost massages? Free concerts? Discounted eye exams? Beyond insurance
and retirement, UNH employees have access to many little-known perks
and benefits. PAT employees will share their experiences with some
of the little-known opportunities offered at UNH. Also, under consideration
is a PAT initiative that would assist UNH employees in announcing
and/or finding and scheduling group activities and outings. Take
this opportunity to learn more about how you can take advantage
of UNH offerings to add to your quality of life.
