Next PAT Professional Development Seminar Dec. 1 Focuses on Turning Hobbies into Businesses

Do you have a hobby that you think would be a great business? Make sure you catch the Staff Development Breakfast Series Dec. 1 to learn how to turn hobbies and interests into a business.

The Staff Development Breakfast Series is sponsored by the PAT Council and the President’s Office. All breakfast presentations are held in Holloway Commons, Piscataqua Room. A Continental Breakfast with coffee is served at 7:30 a.m. Presentations begin promptly at 8 a.m. and end at 9:15 a.m. with a brief question-and-answer period at the end.

University employees enjoy a great working environment, top-notch benefits, and job security. Being a public institution they don't get stock shares or see CEO-sized paychecks. This requires employees to be a little more thoughtful and responsible with their money. This year’s PAT Breakfast Series, “Taking Care of Business,” aims to help stretch that paycheck, avoid fiscal pitfalls, and have fun without breaking the bank.

On Dec. 1, 2005, the breakfast series features “Entrepreneurial Opportunities: Turning Hobbies and Interests into Business.” Successful UNH employee entrepreneurs will discuss how they have created their own businesses based on their interests and hobbies. They will discuss the joys, successes, and possible pitfalls in creating a small company. Doing something one enjoys as a secondary business can provide both extra income and the ability to write off hobby expenses on taxes. With a little effort, one can stretch play-time dollars with extra income and associated tax savings.

Upcoming breakfast series topics include:
