UNHM Professor and Alumna Receive Awards from the Learning Assistance Association of New England

Margaret Pobywajlo, director of the UNH Manchester Learning Center, and Kelly Snair, UNH Manchester alumna, recently received awards from the Learning Assistance Association of New England. 
 
Pobywajlo received the Outstanding Research Award at LAANE’s  22nd annual conference held at Rivier College in Nashua NH. The award recognizes the individual who has authored a published article, book, periodical, or monograph in the field of developmental education. Her doctoral work, her impact upon developmental studies and the book chapter she co-authored with Carolyn White “A Library, Learning Center, & Classroom Collaboration:  A Case Study” were all cited in the award presentation.
 
Snair was recognized as an Outstanding Alumna of a Developmental Program. The award honors a person who participated in a developmental program and then became a member of a profession and/or a contributing member to his her community, thereby exemplifying the effectiveness of developmental education. Snair started her academic career in the College Transition Program. She earned an associate's degree with honors and earned her bachelor's degree in humanities, magna cum laude.  She is a past recipient of the Lew Knight Scholarship award, and is a candidate in the university’s master of education program pursuing teacher education. 
 
The Learning Assistance Association of New England (LAANE) was organized in 1983 and is an affiliate of the National Association of Development Education (NADE). LAANE membership is comprised of a broad spectrum of educators who work in the public and the private sectors of the six New England states. LAANE is a non-profit organization dedicated to the acceptance, advancement, and improvement of developmental education through research and practice.
