Professor Resch Recognized For Newest Book, Americans At War
By Kim Wall, UNHM College
Relations
John Resch, professor of history at UNHM, is the editor-in-chief
of Americans at War: Society, Culture, and the Homefront.
This four-volume reference set for students released in December
2004 examines the profound effect of war upon American society,
culture, and national identity. Resch donated copies of his work
to the library at both UNH Manchester and Durham. His work will
be recognized at a reception Nov. 8.
Resch writes in the preface, “Preparation for war, war itself,
and the legacy of war are among the most important forces shaping
American society and culture. Nevertheless, the study of war is
often treated as if the only topics of importance were battles and
campaigns, results measured in territory, and reputations gained
or lost.” Americans at War includes more than 300 articles
written by scholars representing a variety of disciplines and covering
a variety of topics. Americans at War: Society, Culture, and
the Homefront is published by Macmillan Reference USA.
A reception will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 1 to 1:30 p.m.
in the UNHM Library. The event is free and open to the public. For
more information, contact 641-4101.
