David Frankfurter, professor of history and religious studies and

both an outstanding scholar and teacher in the College of Liberal
Arts, will present his address “The Performance of Evil”

open to the public.
Since receiving his PhD in 1990, Frankfurter has published two books,
one edited volume, more than 20 articles and book chapters, and
more than 20 book reviews. A third book on “images of evil”
is currently under contract with Princeton University Press.
In addition to his scholarship, Frankfurter is known for his enthusiasm
as a teacher and his commitment to engaging students during class.
The annual Lindberg Award was established by the College of Liberal
Arts in 1986 in memory of Professor Gary Lindberg of the Department
of English. Professor Lindberg was an exceptional scholar and outstanding
teacher whose dedication and service to UNH as well as the wider
community exemplified the highest academic standards and ideals.
Following tradition, this year’s recipient, Susan Schibanoff,
professor of English, will present her address next spring. Schibanoff
has been at UNH for more 30 years. She has published article in
the most important journals in the field of English literary study,
and her 600-page book manuscript, Chaucer’s Queer Poetics:
Rereading the Dream Trio, was recently accepted for publication
by the University of Toronto Press. Schibanoff was among a small
group of women who joined the all-male English Department in the
1970s, and she worked with colleagues across campus to start the
Women Studies program.
