National activist to speak as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month

The Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP) welcomes nationally recognized sexual assault speaker and activist Katie Koestner to campus on Wednesday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the Granite State Room where she will present her keynote speech "No-Yes."

Koestner has received national attention for speaking out against a crime of silence. Her appearance at UNH will serve as SHARPP's leadoff to an array of agency sponsored activities in recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The presentation will also inform the ongoing efforts of students, faculty, and staff to end sexual violence on campus.

"No-Yes" focuses on Katie's personal experiences as a rape survivor while a student at the College of William and Mary. The presentation explores this event through context of her personal reactions, the alcohol and drug culture on campus and the larger society that traditionally fails to hold perpetrators accountable.

The program will be co-sponsored by Students Organizational Services of the MUB, Residential Life, the Office of Academic Achievement and Support, Women's Studies, The President's Commission on the Status of Women, and Greek Affairs. For additional information, please call SHARPP at 2-3494.
