Gail Stepina, assistant director of advising and undergraduate programs in the Whittemore School of Business and Economics, has been elected region chair for the Northeast Region 1 of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Stepina will assume this leadership role at the end of the NACADA National Conference being held in Las Vegas, in early October and serve until October 2007. She will be responsible for representing and providing leadership to the membership within the geographic region, facilitating networking opportunities and member recruitment, identifying needed membership services for the region, establishing and maintaining a regional governing structure, and overseeing the annual regional conference, state workshops, and other professional development opportunities for region members.

Kathy Cataneo
, executive director of Sponsored Research, recently was recertified as a Certified Research Administrator.

David Gillum
, laboratory safety officer with the UNH Office of Environmental Health and Safety, has been invited to participate in a workshop on the roles and responsibilities of Institutional Biosafety Committees (IBCs) sponsored by the NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities. Gillum, who developed UNH's Biological Safety Program, is one of only two university-based professionals invited to speak at the conference, which will be held in San Diego in March. For more on UNH Biological Safety and the IBC, visit http://www.unh.edu/ehs/BS/. David A. Berona
, assistant professor and head of Library Systems, presented a paper Feb. 4, 2005, at Yale University, for an international symposium and exhibition exploring the intersection of book arts and graphic art in Belgium. Berona is an international authority on woodcut novels and his articles and papers are highly regarded by scholars in the fields of visual art and communication.
