CEPS Dean candidates coming to campus

Three candidates for dean of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences will visit the Durham campus in the next few weeks and attend public forums.

The three candidates are: Joseph C Klewicki, professor and chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Utah; Oliver G. McGee III, professor and chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering & Geodetic Science at The Ohio State University; and Bor Z. Jang, Walter Booth Distinguished Professor and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at North Dakota State University.

Klewicki has been at the University of Utah since 1990, serving as chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department since 2001. Previously, he was a research assistant at Michigan State University and at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a Ph.D and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from MSU, as well as an M.S. in mechanical engineering from GIT. Klewicki will participate in open forums on Friday, March 18 at 11 a.m. in Demeritt 209B and Monday, March 21 at 11 a.m. in the MUB 334-336.

McGee has been chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering & Geodetic Science at The Ohio State University since 2001. Previous positions include serving as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Technology Policy from 1999-2001 and as a senior policy analyst for the White House Office of Technology Policy from 1997-1999. He holds a Ph.D. in engineering mechanics and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Arizona, a B.S. in civil engineering from The Ohio State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. McGee will participate in open forums on Monday, March 28 at 4 p.m in Kingsbury 135 and Tuesday, March 29 at 9 a.m. in Demeritt 209B.

Jang has been Walter Booth Distinguished Professor and head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at North Dakota State University since 2003. Previously, he was a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Engineering Program at Auburn University in Alabama. He holds a Ph.D and an M.S in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in physics from National Central University in Taiwan. Jang will participate in open forums on Thursday, March 31 at 4 p.m. in Kingsbury 135 and Friday, April 1 at 10 a.m. in Demeritt 209B.
