Medical Laboratory Science Program hosts reunion

By Joyce Stone, assistant professor
Medical Laboratory Science program

The UNH Medical Laboratory Science Program, part of the Department of Animal and Nutritional Sciences, hosted a reunion brunch last month at the New England Center. In attendance were 84 graduates and friends of the UNH Medical Laboratory Science /Medical Technology programs. Attendees came from as far away as Florida, and alumni from as far back as the class of 1946 were represented.

Karol Lacroix, UNH class of 1967 and current president of Granite State College, addressed the group with a review of the MLS/MT program since its inception nearly 70 years ago. The MLS/MT Program was founded at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, at that time located in Hanover, NH, and has been affiliated with the University of New Hampshire since approximately 1944. Lacroix is the former MLS program director, as well as the former dean of the UNH Graduate School and, most recently, the dean of the University of New Hampshire in Manchester.

Elizabeth (Betty) Ward, UNH class of 1946, was honored at the reunion for her nearly 60 years of dedication and involvement with the MLS/MT program while serving as education coordinator at the program’s chief affiliate, Mary Hitchcock Hospital.

Karol Lacroix and Sylvia Countway were also recognized for their many years as MLS/MT Program Director. Sylvia is retiring at the end of this academic year after 22 years of dedicated service to the MLS program.
