O Sidore Lecture Series, Research and the Public Interest, kicks
off Feb. 9
UNH’s 2005 Saul O Sidore Lecture Series, Research and the
Public Interest, will kick off Wednesday, Feb. 9, with Daniel Callahan,
cofounder of The Hastings Center, an independent, nonpartisan, and
nonprofit bioethics research institute founded in 1969 to explore
fundamental and emerging questions in health care, biotechnology,
and the environment. Callahan will discuss “Taming the Research
Imperative: Problems, Pitfalls and Possibilities.” He is the
author or editor of 36 books, including The Research Imperative:
What Price Better Health?
All lectures are free and open to the public, and begin at 4 p.m.
in the Squamscott Room of Holloway Commons.
The series will explore the role of research in a democracy and
what part the public should play in determining the nation’s
