Durham: It’s Where U Live and the Durham Business Association Welcome Students

Durham: It’s Where U Live and the Durham Business Association recently hosted a barbecue on Jenkins Court in downtown Durham to welcome the more than 40 UNH first-year students who came to campus a week early to participate in PrOVES (Pre-Orientation Volunteer Experience in Service). The initiative is designed to introduce community service and leadership to first-year students.

This year the student did work with the Mill Pond Center for the Arts in Durham, the Homemakers of Strafford County’s Adult Day Out Program, the Sandy Point Discovery Center in Stratham, the Portsmouth Historical Society’s John Paul Jones House, Riverside Rest Home in Dover, and Cross Roads House in Portsmouth.

Durham: It’s Where U Live is a catalyst for better connection between University of New Hampshire students and their surrounding community. The goal of this collaborative effort is to increase respect and understanding by working together to create a more cohesive and welcoming community for everyone.
