New Hampshire state legislators will have an opportunity to discover
UNH’s rising research stars in a special day of activities
April 28, as part of the Undergraduate Research Conference (URC)
week.
The event celebrates the quality and breadth of the research, creativity
and scholarly work of UNH undergraduates. Legislators Day is an
opportunity for government leaders to learn about the university
and to experience the teaching and research that distinguishes UNH.
Student research is recognized by peers, faculty and families through
poster sessions, awards and scholarships presented throughout the
week in various disciplines.
Legislators will be welcomed to a continental breakfast by UNH President
Ann Weaver Hart and John Lynch, chair of the University System Board
of Trustees. They also will have an opportunity to view senior art
projects at The Art Gallery and view a poster session on research
and community service at the MUB. After a lunch program in the MUB,
legislators attend one of 16 classes.
The final event of the day brings the legislators to Morse Hall
for the EOS and Engineering Symposia, showcasing the research and
ingenuity of engineering and physical sciences students. A concrete
canoe, the Mini-Baja all terrain vehicle and the FIRST robot are
among some of the projects on display. Legislators will find four
floors of research posters documenting student investigations into
the areas of engineering, Earth, oceans and space research and have
the opportunity to meet with the student researchers. Beginning
at 3:30 p.m. Hart opens the symposium award ceremony. Five monetary
awards will be given to students whose research is judged to be
superior.
