Seminar looks at effects of retirement on family-owned businesses

The Center for Family Business will address the issues of retirement and its effect on family-owned businesses during a special presentation, “You’ve decided to retire, your family is running the business, what do you do next and how do you do it?” Wednesday, April 21, from 8 a.m. to noon. It includes a full buffet breakfast at the Holiday Inn, 172 North Main Street, Concord.

This presentation will feature a case study of a family business whose founder would like to retire but is dependent on the business and a transition of ownership to his three sons for his retirement income. Participants will discuss possible solutions to this situation and the complications and implications inherent in these decisions.

A panel of experts will discuss the legal, financial, and funding aspects of transitioning ownership within a family business. The members include Pete Chandler and Joe Lovejoy of Baker, Newman and Noyes; Tom Davidow of Genus Resources; Andy Lee of Mass Mutual; and Jack Sanders of Pierce Atwood.

A special one-time trial registration fee of $125/person or $250/family is offered for nonmembers for this presentation. The presentation is free to UNH Center for Family Business members. To register, or for more information call Barbara Draper at 2-1107, or visit www.familybusiness.unh.edu.
