The UNH Greenhouse will host its annual open house with lectures
and displays today, Friday, April 2, and tomorrow, Saturday, April
3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The open house is sponsored jointly by the Thompson School of Applied
Science, the UNH Plant Biology Department and Cooperative Extension.
It is free and open to the public.
UNH staff and students will present colorful displays and educational
lectures of interest to home gardeners and landscapers. Saturday
lectures feature information about native plants and habitats in
the state, the best plants for New Hampshire gardens and landscapes,
and medicinal plants. Displays will include the new “Wildcat”
ornamental cultivars, Snackseed pumpkins, hydropnics research, and
information about the master gardener program.
Other events and activities include plant sales, a plant diagnostic
lab (bring your ‘sick’ plants for diagnosis), tours
of the greenhouse and a scavenger hunt and coloring contest for
children.
The UNH greenhouses are located off Main Street on the west end
of Durham. The open house coincides with the 2004 Seacoast Home
and Garden Show at the Whittemore Center. Shuttle service will be
available between the greenhouses and the Whittemore Center.
