Call for Proposals

The 2007 annual meeting of the New England Conference of the Association for Asian Studies will be hosted by the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH, on Saturday, October 6, 2007 during peak fall foliage season. The town of Durham is in the vicinity of the scenic White Mountains and the historic city of Portsmouth, conveniently located in one hour's driving distance from Boston, MA, or Portland, ME, and easily accessible via train or bus. Proposals are invited for panels, individual papers, and roundtables in all areas of Asian Studies. Scholars from other regions are welcome to participate.

The deadline for submission of proposals is SUNDAY, JULY 1, 2007 (Please Note Revised Deadline.)  Proposals should include a summary or abstract of each paper and a description of the overall purpose of the panel. The format for panels should include three or four presenters, a chairperson, and, if desired, a discussant. We urge presenters to consider panel structures that will encourage discussion and scholarly exchange. Each panel or roundtable will last an hour and a half.

Because our neighboring White Mountains is a particularly desirable destination for tourists during peak foliage season, hotel rooms blocked for the conference are LIMITED, available on a first-come, first-serve basis, so please reserve early! Information on hotels can be accessed HERE.
