Dr. David Burdick and Local Fourth-graders Plant 1,100 Mussels in North Mill Pond

A group of about 40 New Franklin School students gathered in the morning to plant about 1,100 of the bivalves in the cord grass along the south edge of the pond.

It’s something fourth-graders from the school have been doing for the past several years, said David Burdick, a research associate professor at the University of New Hampshire, who oversees the project along with Ann Smith, president of the North Mill Pond Advocates.
