The Music Minor
The minor in Music requires a minimum of 20 music credits, which includes one year of theory and one year of music history. The remaining credits are "electives," including participating in the ensembles. Lessons are not included in the curriculum.
You do not need to declare a minor but you will need to fill out a form during your senior year certifying that you completed the requirements for the minor. This form is available at the Registrar's Office and online here.
The courses available for a non-music major are:
MUSI 411-412, music theory for non-majors (required)
MUSI 401, introduction to music
MUSI 402, a survey of music history
MUSI 511, a survey of the history of American music
MUSI 501-502, music history for music majors. You may take this sequence of courses once you have completed one year of music theory.
Participation in any of the ensembles provided you are registered for the ensemble.
The one year of music history requirement may be satisified with any combination of MUSI 401, 402, 511, 501, or 502.
Please note that MUSI 411 and 412 are taught in consecutive semesters: MUSI 411 in the fall; MUSI 412 in the spring.
